Film Magazine Research-

02 Statement of Intent

Brief 3- Magazine and Online

How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? ( approx 400 words)

Statement of intent- Magazine

My brief is to produce the front covers and content page(s) of the first two editions of a new film magazine that is being launched by Bauer and two pages for the working website for the magazine. Total Film Magazine targets an audience of young people from the ages of 16- 25, as my research suggests that most film magazines target specific generations. Many new film magazines subconsciously follow the male gaze, therefore cater to a predominantly male audience as on show are usually women in posed positions with revealing clothing or strong men. Most new film magazines targeting a female demographic use representations of females on the front cover, following the female gaze, using direct mode of address, vivid colour schemes and cover lines that discuss film gossip, interviews and behind the scenes news. To target the demographic, I will use models of this age and representation from different social groups to connote inclusivity and reflect the ideologies associated with mainstream youth culture, alongside left-leaning political ideologies encouraging expression of gender and sexuality. I will use the genre convention of vivid colours across my magazine as it is more eye catching and appealing for a younger audience. The mis en scene across all pages will be similar to institute a clear sense of branding, allowing the readers to get to know and understand the magazine. All of my contents pages and covers will include separate colour schemes, make-up, articles, gossip, photos and social groups, which will subtly differentiate the mis en scene.

Statement of intent- Website

Throughout the magazine and the website the same secure sense of branding will be sustained. A specific colour palette will be used extensively all through. To create and reinforce brand identity, a masthead will be used with  a logo positioned in the corner. To engage the 16-25 age demographic, specific advertisement will be placed throughout the page such as sustainable clothing and mental health hotlines. Different articles will attract the target audience such as behind the scene exclusives, gossip with the cast and on set romances, which from my research is what I discovered young predominantly women to be engaged by in new film magazines. The audio- visual component will be in the form of either a short trailer or a Q&A with the director and cast members as I recognised from research that this is most popular .At both the top of the page and the bottom the social media pages will be advertised to increase publicity therefore the audience will be content and attracted to the stories as the age demographic of 16-25 are the main modern day social media consumers.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production?

To inspire the audience to delegate to my magazine's website after reading the magazine, on both the front covers and the contents page, I will use sublines instructing the readers to go to the magazine for exclusives and further content. Each issue will incorporate numerous scannable QR codes on the content page that takes the reader directly to the website. From prior research of similar magazines, advertisements to the subscriptions of the magazine are on all pages of the website, therefore I will include pop- up advertisements of the magazine subscriptions and both issues will be publicised for sale, alongside a subscription offer at the bottom of the page of the home page..
